Eat Your Way to Victory: Consumables Guide in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4

Consumables are items in Fortnite that restore health and shields or give temporary buffs like increased speed. They are an essential part of any loadout and should be carried alongside weapons at all times.

We've put together this quick breakdown of how consumables work and how to use them to help you in upcoming competitions.

The Best Consumables on the Island

While there are many consumables to choose from, a few stand out from the rest. Some of these items are more efficient than others, but can often be harder to find when looting. Let's break them down.

Chug Splashes

These rare little six-packs of delicious slurp juice heal 20 health and/or shield per pop. You can carry up to six of them, meaning you've got 120 of health and/or shield with you at a time. The effects of Chug Splashes can be shared among teammates; all you need to do is throw it down near another player. Chug Splashes heal in an instant, making their use incredibly valuable during a fight.

Small Shield Potion

These jars heal for +25 shield a pop, but they stop healing after you have 50 shield. It only takes a few seconds to pop one of these jars, making them handy during a fight. You can carry up to six, but the effects of each Small Shield Potion are not shareable.

Chili Chug Splash

These six-packs do everything that Chug Splashes do while also giving you a speed boost. They are one of the best healing items in Fortnite, though they are harder to come by.

Shield Keg

This metal cylinder spews out four shield per second for all players standing around it. The Keg can give you full shield in a matter of moments, but it turns you into a sitting duck in the meantime.

Shield Potion

Heals 50 shield, but takes five seconds to put on. Players can carry up to three at a time.

These consumables are mainstays of some of the best players in the world. While other weapons and items rotate out of Fortnite, items like Small Shield Potions rarely change.

There are also Med Kits that heal 100 health and Bandages that restore 15 health per pop, up to 75% of your health bar. Both are straightforward healing items, but neither have as much utility as the other items in this article.

While most players in any given match are warriors, there are a handful who consider themselves foragers and fishermen too. Two other types of consumables – fish and food – are also incredibly useful in a pinch.

Fishing for a Victory Royale

Fortnite Fishing

Most major named locations – especially those near the edge of the map like Lustrous Lagoon, Harold's Sanctum, or Logjam Lotus – all have fishing spots that you can use to your advantage. All you'll need to do is find a fishing rod or harpoon gun and shoot the white spots in the water.

You'll be able to pull out weapons as well as a number of fish that can be just as useful as other consumables. Let's break some of them down.

Small Fry

These little guys heal you for 25 health, but won't heal you once you're at 75% of your health bar. They can be pulled out of any body of water, and players can carry up to six.

Flopper

These basic fish heal 40 health. You can carry up to four. Like most fish, it only takes a second to apply and get back to business.

Slurpfish

Slurpfish heal any combination of 40 health and/or shield. They are rarer than Floppers, but are all the better to use in a bind.

Shieldfish

Shieldfish heal 50 shield. They serve the same function as the Shield Potion, but can be used in a fraction of the time. Players can carry up to three.

Jellyfish

Heals 20 health and/or shield. Players can carry up to three.

Fishing can be a great way to find all the heals you'll need for a fight. The only issue is that they're harder to replace when compared to other standard healing items. You'll have to return to the water to fish more, which takes time and makes you vulnerable. Often, it would be better to kill an enemy player or team and take their consumables to resupply instead.

Foraging for Health and Shield

Fortnite Foraging Apple

Foraging doesn't have a system as deep as fishing in Fortnite, but there are plenty of consumables, named Foraged Items in-game, that can help you survive enemy fire, the storm, or whatever else Fortnite throws your way.

Cabbages, bananas, apples, coconuts, corn, and mushrooms can be found in various locations around the map. Cabbages, bananas, apples, and corn all heal for 10 health. Coconuts heal for 5 health, and shield and mushrooms heal for 5 shield. All Foraged Items take seconds to consume.

Named locations with stores or residential housing like Greasy Grove and Sleepy Sound have a ton of these smaller consumables. Players can carry up to 10 cabbages, which can be vital in maintaining a full health bar in a pinch.

No matter what you're carrying, make sure two slots in your loadout are filled with some sort of consumable. It's preferable to have one item that heals shield and one that refills health, or some combination of items that do both.

It's also important to coordinate with teammates. Make sure you hit them with Chug Splashes and carry complimentary healing items. For example, one player can have Small Shield Potions while the other carries the bigger Shield Potions.

Now it's time to take what you've learned about these new fish, fruit, and other consumables and take them into a Fortnite PlayStation Cup. We're looking forward to seeing you snack your way to a full health bar and a hearty Victory Royale.
