Paris Saint-Germain
- League: French Ligue 1
- Attacking: 89
- Midfield: 83
- Defending: 85
- Overall Rating: 86
- Star Players: Lionel Messi (93), Kylian Mbappe (91), Neymar Jr. (91)
Paris Saint-Germain, more commonly known as “PSG,” is the highest rated team in FIFA 22. The French giants are led by the game’s best attacking line: Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar Jr. Defenses have no choice but to focus on one or two of these superstars and hope the third misses.
PSG has a talented back line to complement its attack. New centre back Sergio Ramos (88) comes over from Real Madrid. He joins longtime club stalwart Marqunihos (87) in the middle of the defense. Achraf Hakimi (85) and Juan Bernat (82) play the fullback positions. PSG also has two elite goalkeepers in Gianluigi Donnarumma (89) and Keylor Navas (88).
Marco Verratti (87) and Georginio Wijnaldum (84) highlight the midfield. Angel Di Maria (87) is a versatile attacking midfielder that can also play on the wings. PSG has talented reserve players as well like striker Mauro Icardi (83), defender Presnell Kimpembe (83), and defensive midfielder Idrissa Gueye (82).
Manchester City
- League: English Premier League
- Attacking: 85
- Midfield: 85
- Defending: 86
- Overall Rating: 85
- Star Players: Kevin De Bruyne (91), Ederson (89), Raheem Sterling (88)
Manchester City hold down the second spot with an 85 overall rating. City is an extremely balanced team with few holes in their roster. Kevin De Bruyne leads the game’s most talented group of midfielders, while the offensive-minded Bernardo Silva (86) and the defensive Rodri (86) make key contributions. Ilkay Gundogan (85) can start or come into the game as a reserve. Fernandinho (83) provides even more depth at midfield.
City’s attack is led by wingers Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez (86) slicing through defenders on the outside. Gabriel Jesus is the squad’s only true striker after the departure of Sergio Aguero. City uses a lot of attacking midfielders to supplement their lack of goal-scoring talent. De Bruyne often serves the role of a “False 9,” where a midfielder plays a similar position to the striker. Phil Foden (84), Jack Grealish (84), and Ferran Torres (82) can also act as pseudo-strikers.
While they have plenty of scoring power, defending is City’s highest rating. Goalkeeper Ederson anchors the defense alongside Aymeric Laporte (86) and John Stones (83) in the middle. Joao Cancelo (86) and Kyle Walker (85) thwart pushes from opposing wingers on the edges. Walker also contributes to the attack.
FC Bayern Munchen
- League: German Bundesliga
- Attacking: 92
- Midfield: 85
- Defending: 81
- Overall Rating: 84
- Star Players: Robert Lewandowski (92), Manuel Neuer (90), Joshua Kimmich (89)
Germany’s best club wields the most dangerous attack in FIFA 22. The bulk of their scoring comes from electrifying striker Robert Lewandowski. Attacking midfielder Thomas Muller (87) is also integral to creating shot opportunities. Leroy Sane (84) provides goal-scoring depth in Bayern’s reserves.
Bayern use a number of midfielders to set up a calculated, methodical offense. Along with Muller, Leon Goretzka (87) and Marcel Sabitzer (84) lead the charge in the middle of the field, while Kingsley Coman (86) and Serge Gnabry (85) create chances on the outside. Budding superstar Joshua Kimmich plays a defensive role in the midfield but is also skilled enough to spark offensive opportunities.
Defense is the weakest link of Bayern’s roster. Lucas Hernandez (83), Dayot Upamecano (82), and Alphonso Davies (82) highlight this group. It may be wise to use formations with only three defenders and use Kimmich to cover more ground on defense. Fortunately for Bayern, they have one of the game’s best goalkeepers in Manuel Neuer to offset some of their defensive limitations.
Liverpool
- League: English Premier League
- Attacking: 86
- Midfield: 83
- Defending: 85
- Overall Rating: 84
- Star Players: Mohamed Salah (89), Sadio Mane (89), Virgil van Dijk (89)
Liverpool’s squad can score goals in a hurry while pitching shutouts on defense. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane lead their attack. This speedy duo can consistently complete long runs at the goal. Roberto Firmino (85) joins them in the middle to create a dangerous scoring trio. All are able passers that set up plenty of goals for each other.
The midfielders for Liverpool are a tough, gritty bunch that fight for every possession. Fabinho (86) and Jordan Henderson (84) are defensive midfielders adept at forcing turnovers. Thiago (86) is more balanced and can even chip in with some goals here and there. Liverpool lacks midfielder depth, which can be troublesome given how they tire easier than other positions.
Liverpool shines at defense. Virgil Van Dijk is a leader of men and a force at the centre back position. He is joined in the middle by Joel Matip (83). Trent Alexander-Arnold (87) and Andrew Robertson (87) make for the game’s highest-rated fullback tandem. In goal, Alisson (89) cleans up the few mistakes that leak through.
Manchester United
- League: English Premier League
- Attacking: 85
- Midfield: 84
- Defending: 83
- Overall Rating: 84
- Star Players: Cristiano Ronaldo (91), Bruno Fernandes (89), Paul Pogba (87)
This year’s story with the Red Devils is the blockbuster return of a familiar face. Perennial superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is back for his second stint with the club. He is joined by Edinson Cavani (85) and Marcus Rashford (85) in the attack. With Ronaldo’s elite goal-scoring talent and knack for setting up teammates, goals do not come scarce for Manchester United.
United use an aggressive approach to their midfield. They employ a number of attacking midfielders to create scoring chances from all over the field. Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho (87) provide an additional attacking punch to the strikers, while Paul Pogba is one of the game’s most versatile players. He can cover the entire field box-to-box, score goals, and defend.
The defense is led by Raphael Varane (86) and Harry Maguire (84) in the centre back positions. Luke Shaw (84) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (83) are the fullbacks, with the latter playing an integral part in the offense as a wing back. Longtime goalkeeper David De Gea (84) rounds out the back line.
Real Madrid
- League: Spanish Primera Division
- Attacking: 84
- Midfield: 85
- Defending: 83
- Overall Rating: 84
- Star Players: Thibaut Courtois (89), Casemiro (89), Karim Benzema (89)
Despite seeing heavy roster turnover the past few seasons, Real Madrid are still among the top squads in FIFA 22. They are led by defensive anchor Thibaut Courtois in goal. Centre back Eder Militao (82) is joined by converted fullback David Alaba (84) in the middle. Daniel Carvajal (85) and Ferland Mendy (83) play on the edges. Real Madrid’s defenders have some offensive skills and can aid in the attack.
They also have an elite group of midfielders led by the defensive-minded Casemiro. He is joined by Toni Kroos (88) and 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric (87). Federico Valverde (83), Marco Asensio (83), and Isco (82) are all talented players that could start on any other squad. These players provide the midfield depth that other clubs dream about.
Several savvy veterans make up their attack. Karim Benzema is the club’s primary goal scorer and can play striker or centre fielder. Eden Hazard (85) plays on the wing where he is one of the game’s most creative players with the ball at his feet. Gareth Bale’s (82) best days may be behind him, but he can still provide magic for Real Madrid’s attack.
Atletico Madrid
- League: Spanish Primera Division
- Attacking: 84
- Midfield: 83
- Defending: 83
- Overall Rating: 84
- Star Players: Jan Oblak (91), Luis Suarez (88), Marcos Llorente (86)
You shouldn’t write off Atletico as merely the “other” Madrid club. They are a balanced squad led by the game’s best goalkeeper, Jan Oblak. They often use five defenders thanks to their trio of talented centre backs: Jose Maria Gimenez (84), Felipe (84), and Stefan Savic (84). Kieran Trippier (84) and Renan Lodi (81) provide support on the edges, while Mario Hermoso (82) is a talented reserve player adding depth to this already stacked group.
Atletico’s attack centers around some of the game’s most talented players. Striker Luis Suarez is a goal-scoring machine even at 34 years old. Other scorers like Marcos Llorente and Antonie Griezmann (85) can chip in plenty of shots too. Reserves Joao Felix (83) and Thomas Lemar (83) are great for an extra offensive punch when stamina runs low late in the game.
A deep midfield group rounds out Atletico’s roster. Koke (85) runs the offense in the middle of the pitch, while Yannick Carrasco (84) excels on the outside. Bench players such as Angel Correa (83), Rodrigo De Paul (82), and Hector Herrera (81) provide even more depth to the midfielder corps.
