Mansion Face Off Tips - Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Map Guide

Published on: 04/05/2021
By: Jon Silman

Face Off is best for fans interested in fast-paced small team action without the chaos of maps like Shipment.

Shipment, Rust, and other iconic maps are designed to give players almost no cover or breathing room between hectic shoot-outs. More recent iterations of Call of Duty expanded on these mini battlefields with small team modes featuring more opportunities for strategy like Gunfight in Modern Warfare. Face Off brings 3v3 Shipment style fights to Black Ops Cold War in the form of Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, and Domination.

Season 2 Reloaded’s Mansion map is one of the best Face Off levels yet, offering multiple routes and elevation that make it almost impossible to sneak up on enemies without coordination. Here are some tips, tricks, and tactics to help you win more games on Mansion.

Mansion map layout

COD Mansion Map layout Face Off

Mansion is almost symmetrical. There are two courtyards and an interior room in the middle. The east courtyard has palm trees and a gazebo while the west features a statue on a not-yet-working water fountain.

In the middle, there’s a circular room with a hallway off to the side and a balcony. To the south, there’s a tight hallway where the majority of close quarters combat takes place. There’s access to the balcony from the courtyards.

The whole map has a nice flow once you get a feel for it, which shouldn’t take long considering the size. The more complex layout and open feel makes this the largest Face Off map yet. There are four routes from each courtyard into the middle of the map, giving teams ample options to flank and mix up their approach.

Here’s how to get better at Face Off.

Mansion Face Off Tips

Learn the map

This is one of the most overlooked tips for any new map. Take some time in a private match to get a feel for sightlines, places to hide, and good power spots in the map. Make sure you learn the flow and how one section transitions into another. Watching matches online or your favorite streamers is another great tactic. You’ll notice new things when you’re not the one with the controller in your hands.

Watch chokepoints

The majority of fast encounters are going to happen along the South hallway section and in those tight doorways going from section to section. Expect sudden face to face shoot-outs, so crouch to reduce noise and pay attention to footsteps for a slight advantage.

The second level

Don’t underestimate the power of the high ground. The balcony can be reached from both courtyards and the middle of the map. This gives the position great lines of sight at the risk of flanks from almost every side. Pick off foes as they cross from the east to the west side of the map in the middle, but keep an eye out for enemies climbing up from either courtyard.

Middle map line of sight

There’s a valuable line of sight from both sides that cuts across the middle of the level. Capitalize on it from the balcony, just below the balcony’s window, or across the map in the doorway. Keep an eye on it and you’ll see a good amount of traffic since you’ll have to cross it to leave your spawn (typically one of the courtyards).

Use equipment like Frag Grenades on the second level

Use either lethal or tactical equipment on enemies on the second level. For the most part, it’s harder to win a one-on-one as you’re vulnerable when climbing. Alternatively, throw mines from above to enemies down below. Even if the enemy destroys it you’ll know someone is down there.

Don’t stop moving

Mansion doesn’t allow for much camping. Stay in one spot and you’re almost guaranteed to get flanked. Face Off maps are created for that run and gun, frantic feel. Keep scanning and moving with intention, if you slow down you’re going to get mowed down.

Use Stim Shot

Multiple lines of sight and lanes mean more enemy fire. Use a Stim Shot to get your health meter back up before reinforcements appear to finish you off.
