Build a firewall to protect your Data Center! Cyber Attack combines the best elements of One Flag Capture The Flag and Search & Destroy. Players need patience, coordination, and strategy to hack the competition!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s New Competitive Mode
Players are split into two teams of five. An EMP device, or bomb, spawns at one of a few predetermined choke points between spawns. Both teams have one Data Center, or bomb site, to protect near their spawn. Grab the bomb and either plant it at the opponent’s Data Center, or eliminate the enemy team to secure victory!
Shoot, arm, and defend your way to 5 victories to win the game! Games have a three-minute time limit and allow parties of up to six players.
Call of Duty: Bootcamp Basics
Remember the same basic tactics that got you out of boot camp! Most Call of Duty fundamentals transfer across modes.
Controls
Don’t lose firefights to your controls! Adjust your sensitivity until your reticle moves at a comfortable pace. The higher the sensitivity, the quicker the reticle moves and vice versa. Depending on your playstyle, weapon, and preference you might want a higher sensitivity to react faster in close quarters combat or a lower sensitivity for more precision with long-range shots.
Different control schemes like Tactical help players slide and crouch faster to dodge shots and win gunfights, while Stick and Move lets you jump shot with R3 to maintain accuracy. Maybe you want the controls to function similar to another shooter or possibly just try something new. Customize and experiment until you find your favorite!
Anticipate
Anticipate enemy positions when navigating the map! Position your cursor where you think enemies will appear when turning corners, entering rooms, and moving around in general. Anticipation saves time and lives. Note popular positions, player habits, and other factors like objectives to improve your kill to death ratio, and more importantly your team’s win-rate!
Placement
Placement is a byproduct of practice and experience! Knowing when to stay put, push enemies, flank, and fall back in gunfights is a valuable asset on any team. Sprinting, sliding, or hopping around corners, optimizing cover, and positioning based on weapon range, other players, and the objective puts pros on top!
Situational Awareness
Be smart and pay attention! Be aware of the minimap, ammo, score, time, health, player positions, weapon range, damage, bomb position, equipment, killstreaks, etc. Playing with a headset and listen closely for footsteps. Know what’s happening and you’re far more likely to maintain and move toward advantageous positions for your team!
Whether you build situational awareness playing with friends, watching pros, or grinding alone, it is acting in the best interest of you and your team. For example, save killstreaks for the start of a round unless they’re absolutely necessary to win the current one.
Mentality
Have a goal, be a troll, or just have fun. Whatever motivation brought you to the battlefield, understand your strengths, weaknesses, and quirks. Landing shots, calling in killstreaks, and winning games feels glorious, but rough patches are inevitable for even the best players.
Keep your cool when playing poorly and play like a pro without an ego. Rage fuels mistakes and hampers the experience for your entire team. Sometimes the best option is to simply stop playing. Don’t worry, you can always come back with a fresh mindset!
Beginner’s Guide to Cyber Attack: Starting a Round
The countdown is starting! Your team branches out toward the bomb. No one is in sight. Should you grab it?
Chances are you’ll struggle to pick up the bomb at the start of a round because players stick to strategic vantage points surrounding it. It’s safer to split your team and take side routes before curving inward to push the enemy team from multiple sides. Keep at least one player surveying the bomb. Otherwise, the enemy team might rush forward, take the bomb, and earn an easy plant.
Navigating Cyberspace: Should I Plant or Pursue?
It’s possible to win without even touching the bomb because of another element from Search & Destroy, no respawns. Killing everyone on the enemy team nets you the win. However, you can revive teammates. Reviving is a slow process that makes Cyber Attack a unique mix of risk and reward gameplay.
Use situational awareness to decide whether or not you should revive a teammate or go on the offensive. The plus icon above bodies indicates a teammate that can be revived. You’re vulnerable when reviving, so take note of the enemy’s position and go prone before lending anyone a hand. A player count alerts everyone whenever someone is killed or brought back into the fray. Look around the map for opportunities to revive teammates whenever possible.
Playing defensively can be a double-edged bayonet. Patrol a section of the map for too long and the enemy might revive a teammate. Guard a group of bodies expecting an enemy to revive them and they might instead plant the bomb. Players crawl into every crack and crevice in an attempt to kill you when their team is down. Crouch near unsuspecting enemies and use the extra numbers to avoid flanks and disadvantageous positions.
Bombs Away?
Who should grab the bomb on your team? If you’re in a public match, you better hope it’s someone that will play the objective. Fortunately, they often leave the bomb alone if they have no desire to plant and prefer to kill, but don’t confuse opportunity and patience with ignorance. Many players wait until the enemy has one or two players scrambling around the map before grabbing the bomb. Remember to switch to your secondary when grabbing it since the bomb takes up one of your weapon slots.
The bomb icon vanishes from the HUD when a player grabs it, meaning you have a decent estimate of where the carrier is, friend or foe. Don’t hesitate to use a dropped bomb to lure in enemies. All is fair in modern war!
Ties give both teams one point. If you’re the last player on your team, outnumbered, and can’t revive anyone, hiding with the bomb isn’t the bravest strategy, although it might just keep your team ahead. Conversely, planting the bomb is a sure-fire way to lure players to your position.
Destroying The Data Center
Be careful when rushing toward a Data Center! Enemies and equipment like claymores might be waiting to greet you. Sneaking into the backdoor can be safer, albeit still guarded. Mix up your approach to the Data Center as well as your defense. Sometimes it’s best to charge in if you know the area is vacant.
Planting the bomb only takes a few seconds, then the real countdown begins. The attackers will have 34 seconds to protect the Data Center.
Closing doors, crouching, placing claymores, and taking a less predictable position to defend the site makes it harder to disarm the bomb. Listen for approaching players, spread out from your teammates to cover multiple routes, and consider moving whenever you kill an enemy. Smoke grenades and Molotovs can also delay and deter enemies from walking into traps. What’s worse than walking into a claymore? A claymore covered in smoke.
Disarming The Data Center
Disarming Data Centers can feel stressful, but don’t let the pressure or the time limit get to you! If possible use the extra time at the start of the countdown to revive any allies along the way. There’s a good chance most of the enemy team is near the Data Center, so use that knowledge to your advantage. That being said, depending on the number of players left, most of the team might fan out and leave the Data Center vulnerable. Neither underestimate nor assume a team’s strategy. Listen to your surroundings before making your next move!
Bait the enemy team if possible. Trick them into focusing their attention on specific entrances or directions with grenades, gunshots, and equipment. Alternative routes provide opportunities to get the jump on the enemy team. Throwing stuns and equipment in close proximity to the Data Center might even disorient or weaken foes. It’s possible the enemy team might leave themselves vulnerable to avoid getting stunned or killed by grenades. Other tactics like the Riot Shield work both offensively and defensively if anyone is willing to wield one.
Cyber Attack Loadouts, Customizations, and Killstreaks
Enemies sneaking around, creating chaos with killstreaks, or outclassing you in general? Different perks, weapons, equipment, and field upgrades can swing the fight in your favor!
Perks
- Ghost keeps UAVs off your tail
- Tracker shows enemy footprints
- Scavenger gives you the chance to refill ammo when killing enemies
- Overkill gives players two primary weapons
- Spotter lets you see and mark enemy equipment through walls - High Alert tells you when enemies see you outside your field of view
- Hardline lowers the cost of killstreaks by 1 kill
Weapons
There are no weapons that excel specifically in Cyber Attack. If you’re a fan of SMGs then use an SMG. Likewise with shotguns, LMGs, or any weapon. Silencers, on the other hand, soften the sound of guns and keep players off the mini-map. Use your favorite Loadout because the smartest way to play is to select weapons based on the map and personal preference!
Killstreaks
Low killstreaks that help your team’s situational awareness like UAVs and Personal Radars are the most viable options. Combine with airstrikes and other position-based streaks such as the sentry gun for lethal combinations! There’s nothing wrong with going for higher killstreaks, however, the nature of Cyber Attack calls for smaller, more immediate rewards.
It Takes a Team to Tango
Work with your teammates to devise the best gameplan and Loadout based on your style and strengths! The best tactics could be the ones you never even tried or considered! Different players and teams have their own strategies, especially in public matches where coordination and communication might be lacking. Turn on your microphone, filter Cyber Attack, and surf through lobbies!
