Looking to start your own FIFA 20 Ultimate Team? Here's what you need to know to get started.
Starting your FIFA Ultimate Team
The first decision you’ll make is your squad's nationality. Brazil, England, Germany, and Italy are a few of the popular choices. Your starting squad will consist of a handful of players from that nationality. Two will be non-rare gold. Keep this in mind if you want to build a specific team around certain players or clubs!
Loan Players
You'll receive loan players at the start of your FIFA Ultimate Team career. These players are rare and only remain in your squad for a few games. This helps you get the ball rolling as you build the rest of your team.
Now that you have your loan players, you’re probably thinking your team’s not that great. You're right. Eventually, you will want to replace every player and build a team with high chemistry. But how?
Foundations Objectives
The best way to get started is to complete objectives to earn XP, FIFA Coins, and Player Packs. Navigate to Foundations Objectives and complete The Basic challenges! These are very easy and meant to teach you how to manage your ultimate team. For example, simply put a player in their assigned position, and you’re rewarded with 150 FIFA Coins.
The Basics Objectives
Positioning
“Players have positions where they perform best. Place a player in their preferred position, located at the top left of their item (ST, CB, GK, etc.)”
Reward: 150 coins
Basic Chemistry
“Place a player in your Squad adjacent to another player that shares the same Nation, Club or League. This will increase their Chemistry.”

Squad Battles
“Squad Battles is a single-player mode that matches you up against another FUT Squad, and is a great place to earn rewards to upgrade your Squad.”
Reward: Unique Ball
As you can see, these are all straight-forward and easy. The only objective that actually brings you to the pitch is Squad Battles, which is another great way to earn FIFA coins and Packs.
In order to advance to the next set of objectives, you must complete The Basics.
Squad Management
The Squad Management objectives also teach you how to manage the players on your Ultimate Team, specifically their Fitness, Contracts, and the Team Managers.
The more games you play will decrease a player’s fitness, causing them to run slower and be prone to injury. Each game played also reduces a player’s contract by 1. They can no longer play once their contract is at 0.
For these objectives, simply apply a Fitness consumable to a player, as well as a contract to extend their time on your team.
Top Up - Fitness
“Apply a Fitness Item to any player in your Squad. Each match reduces a players fitness. Players with low fitness are prone to injury and can sprint less.”
Reward: 150 coins
Top Up - Contracts
“Apply a Contract to anyone on your Squad. Each game a players Contracts is reduced by 1. Without Contracts, players cannot play in a match.”
Reward: 150 coins
Top Up - Managers
“Apply a Manager Contract to your manager. Managers require contracts just like players to take part in a match and guide your Squad.”
Reward: Squad Fitness +10 Rare Bronze Item

Perfect Link
“Try linking two players by Nation and Club to create a perfect link. This link will grant the largest Chemistry boost for your players.”
Reward: 150 coins
In order to obtain a Perfect Link between players, they must be of the same Nationality and club.
3 Perfect Links
“Make 3 perfect links in your Squad. If you don’t have the correct players, go to the Transfer Market to acquire more.”
Reward: Chemistry Styles Card
3 Perfect Links is a little harder to achieve, especially with your starter squad. It's time to dive into the Transfer Market and purchase new players. Use the filter options to filter by Nationality, Clubs, and price.
The best way to start is to look for cheap players. Filter by a price less than 1,000 FIFA coins. On top of that, search for players that match the majority Nationality of your team. Since you’re looking to complete the 3 Perfect Links objective, purchase players with the same Nationality and Club. Place them in your starting line up after purchasing to complete the objective!

Squad Building Challenges
Squad Building Challenges are a great way to earn rewards. “Exchange unique Squads of players from your club for exciting rewards!”
For example, the Training SBC 2 for ‘Leagues and Nation Basics’ tells you to “Exchange Five Players from the Same League but Different Nations.”
Chances are you don’t have enough players to complete the challenge, let alone 5 players that are in the same League. That’s where the Transfer Market comes in. Keep in mind, players used in Squad Building Challenges are exchanged and lost forever, so don’t use any players from your starting squad.
Training SBC 1
“Go to the Squad Building Challenges tile and complete the Learn the Basics of Squad Building Challenge.”
Reward: 150 coins

Competitive Play
Competitive Play objectives offer your first chance to play online against real opponents of similar skill. Be aware that playing these games will reduce your squad's Contract length and Fitness levels. Fortunately for you, completing all of the Foundation objectives should provide you with enough Contracts and Squad Fitness cards to keep your team in tip-top shape.
Note: Jumping into Competitive Play before earning the Foundation Objective rewards is ill-advised since you won't have the necessary Coins, Contracts, and Squad Fitness cards to set up your team for continued success. Building a foundation of coins, cards, and players is the best place to start before competing.
