Landing on the top of tier lists throughout the majority of Mortal Kombat 11, Jacqui Briggs is a powerhouse character common in top-level tournaments. This is one character you know you’re going to have to play well against, especially when she’s controlled by someone who knows what they’re doing.
In this guide, we’ll break down what makes her great, what her weaknesses are, and ultimately, how to defeat this well-rounded beast of a character.
Jacqui Briggs Character Analysis
Briggs is a rushdown character, meaning she concentrates on offense and puts opponents under a lot of pressure with fast attacks, often forcing the other player into situations requiring the correct reactions at the risk of punishment.
Her normal attacks are some of the quickest in the game, not to mention her numerous frame traps and staggers to help with strings.
How to Beat 1st Round KO
The best defense against 1st Round KO Jacqui is to play keep away since she doesn’t have a projectile. Use projectiles against her, and always be cautious of how fast she can close the distance on you.
Most of her attacks come low, so keep that in mind. Expect the overhead mix-up and punish that -12 attack accordingly.
Jacqui will want to play a close game, so managing space is crucial to winning against her.
Throws
One of Brigg’s abilities is to amplify her throw escape into an arm or leg break. Throwing her becomes dangerous because if she techs a few she’ll get a Krushing Blow.
It’s best to attack her straight on rather than try to throw her. Also, with this knowledge, go for a shimmy to make her think the throw is coming, and then punish the tech. That doesn’t mean you should never throw, just use it primarily for baits and mix-ups.
If you do get caught in the arm or leg break, you have a chance of escaping with a successful prediction. Press 1 or 2 to escape the arm break and 3 or 4 to escape the leg break. Good luck, although thankfully you can anticipate what Jacqui player’s might use first.
1st Round KO gets a Krushing Blow if she uses a leg break after an arm break, meaning there’s a good chance she’ll opt for the arm break first. Make sure you’re ready to cancel when she techs a throw.
Watch for 1st Round KO Cancels
If Jacqui cancels an attack for pressure, poke or jab in retaliation, which will interrupt her chance to go in for a combo. If she doesn’t cancel, you’ll be the one receiving more damage.
