How to play Cammy: Street Fighter V Champion Edition Guide

Published on: 03/02/2021
By: Jon Silman

Cammy’s design has been a recognizable part of the Street Fighter series ever since Super Street Fighter 2. Her great mobility, strong normals, and ease of use only make her more popular.

She has decent damage output, good anti-air attacks, and along with Rashid, one of the best V-Triggers in the game, but Cammy isn’t perfect. The lack of an overhead option, little stamina, and easily punished specials are her main weaknesses.

Cammy is a good character for beginners. She’s fairly straightforward and lacks complex gimmicks. Plus, her high position on most tier lists means she is a great choice for competitive play.

As for backstory, she was formerly a mindless drone of Shadaloo, but eventually broke free to fight for the good guys. More importantly, she loves cats!

Cammy Beginner Basics SFV

Every Street Fighter character has three punches and kicks: light, medium, and hard.

  • Punches – Cammy’s light punch is highly spammable due to its quick speed and low recovery. Her medium punch deals a respectable amount of damage and can be used to whiff punish. The hard punch has great range and works well as a combo starter.
  • Kicks – Use the light kick to spam, the medium kick as a poke, and the hard kick as a good anti-air option.

Here is Cammy’s moveset. The blue EX box means that there’s an EX version of the move that costs one meter of the EX Gauge. All moves are notated for Cammy facing to the right. Reverse if she’s facing left.

Cammy’s Throw Tips

Inputs

Cammy’s throws are an essential part of her pressure game. If you can condition an enemy to stay defensive and block often, a throw will help mix things up.

  • Gyro Clipper creates some movement and can help back an enemy into a corner. It’s a good move to use between combos for positioning.
  • Delta Through deals decent damage and opens up an opportunity for a throw loop or a combo.
  • Neck Spiral is a very effective anti-air tool that gives Cammy a good position on landing. It works well for a jump in attack, especially if Cammy is backed into a corner.

Cammy V-Skills

In Street Fighter V, V-skills are actions unique to each character and complement a character’s fighting style. They are activated by pressing the medium punch and kick buttons at the same time.

Inputs

Axel Spin Knuckle

Cammy is invincible during this attack. Use it to go through fireballs and punish accordingly.

Spinning Attack

Great for the neutral game, this move can be linked from a number of normals and used as a combo ender. It can even trigger a Crush Counter and put an enemy in a juggle state.

V-Trigger

To use a V-Trigger, press hard kick and hard punch together when the V-Meter is full.

Inputs

Delta Drive

This move speeds Cammy up and makes Spiral Arrow, Cannon Spike, and Cannon Strike more powerful. It’s a phenomenal tool to string together extra damage.

Delta Ambush

When activated, Cammy can perform two additional moves in the air. The Reverse Edge is a kick somersault and the Delta Twist is a multi-hit strike. Follow these moves up with a combo to gain the advantage.

Delta Step

The Delta Step is a quick way to close distance and punish laggy moves.

V-Reversal

For a V-Reversal, press all three punch buttons.

Inputs

This is a side-switching kick escape that can switch the pressure from one side to another. However, it can be punished by an enemy with a long poke if they know it’s coming.Use it as a mix-up if possible.

Cammy Unique Moves

Inputs

  • The Knee Bullet hits twice in the upper body area. Link to a crouching medium punch and then use a special like Cannon Spike for maximum effectiveness.
  • Lift Upper is a great anti-air move. Dash under after a hit and punish with mix-ups.
  • Lift Combination gives Cammy the option to go into a Spiral Arrow, Cannon Spike, Cross Stinger Assault, or other moves.

Cammy Special Moves

Inputs

Cammy Critical Art

Inputs

Like other critical arts, this is a great combo ender. It’s a move with a lot of uses because it can link to normals or specials like the Cannon Spike. It also makes her invincible so use it to punish whiffs and projectiles.

Here’s a great combo guide for beginner’s from EXCEL to round out the introduction:
