Urien might not be one of the well-known Street Fighter V Champion Edition characters, but don’t let that distract you from the fact that he’s one of the best in the game and frequently lands toward the top of tier lists.
Urien first appeared in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact. He’s the second-in-command for a secret society run by his older brother Gill, another fighter. Urien fights using the secret style of the Illuminati and electrical energy.
He is fairly balanced despite lacking a great jump and speed. His strong pressure in conjunction with powerful V-Skills make for some intimidating options.
Urien’s Basic Attacks Guide
Every Street Fighter character has three punches and three kicks in order from light to hard.
- Punches - His light punch has good range and damage, but it’s not the fastest. The middle punch covers more ground. Use it during a jump to effectively anti-air. His heavy hits from above and is a reliable combo starter. You can even charge it for more damage on a hard read. Crouching heavy punch is an uppercut.
- Kicks - Urien’s light kick is one of his fastest attacks but has less range when crouching. His medium is one of his best overall moves and has great range. Heavy kick can be charged for more damage like the punch. It’s a good anti-air that knocks down enemies if you land it in a crouch.
The following is a list of Urien’s moveset. The blue EX box means that there’s an EX version of the move that costs one meter of the EX Gauge. All moves are notated for Urien facing right. Reverse the directional inputs if he’s facing left.
Urien’s Throw Input & Tips
Urien has one throw called the Spartan Bomb. He puts an enemy into a headscissors position and then slams them into the ground. It’s a good move to reset the neutral and allows for follow up options like a zoned projectile or poke.
Urien’s V-Skill Inputs and Tips
V-Skills are unique actions that complement every character’s fighting style. Press the medium punch and kick inputs at the same time to activate V-Skills.
V-Skill 1 – Metallic Aura
This move covers Urien with a dark aura that amplifies his special moves. Chariot Tackle, Violence Knee Drop, and Dangerous Headbutt each get super armor for one-hit. The buff goes away when Urien uses a special move. Use it when an opponent is stunned or knocked back because it has a 16-frame startup.
V-Skill 2 – Indignant Thunder
This move amplifies the Metallic Sphere projectile in a few ways. The projectile gets bigger and hits an enemy three times, while the EX version hits five times. It’s great for zoning and can nullify projectiles. The After The Light version will shrink after traveling halfway across the screen, and then hit twice.
It can also be charged and fired faster or at a 45 degree angle.
V-Triggers
Press hard kick and hard punch together when the V-Meter is full to use a V-Trigger.
V-Trigger 1 – Aegis Reflector
The Aegis Reflector creates an energy barrier in front of the direction Urien is facing. It slowly moves forward, stops, and disintegrates. Use the directional buttons to change the shield’s direction.
This move is great for juggling combos, especially when two are set up to trap the opponent. Using Spartan Bomb into the barrier works well. It’s one of his most versatile moves and can set up a litany of combos, especially in the corner.
The barrier can also reflect projectiles to help you get in or keep the opponent out.
V-Trigger 2 – Tyrant Pressure
This move is a dynamic powerhouse that courses electricity through Urien, letting him tackle his opponent with Tyrant Blaze. Hold down the heavy punch and kick inputs to trigger four hits.
The move launches foes for juggles. The charged version is even stronger. Use Tyrant Pressure in the corner to maximize damage with optimal pressure.
V-Reversal
For a V-Reversal, press all three punch buttons.
Anger Snap Fist
The Anger Snap Fist is a vicious forward punch that knocks your enemy back. Use it to get out of a jam, create space, and reset the neutral.
Urien’s Unique Moves
Here are Urien’s unique attacks.
- Quarrel Punch is a long range poke good for stopping jump-ins.
- Quarrel Kick is another good poke with excellent range at the cost of more start up frames. It can be cancelled into Aegis Reflector and set up combos.
- Terrible Smash is a powerful downward punch meant to break defense from crouch guarding. It’s also good as a mix up.
- Killer Straight is a jab followed by a cross punch. This unique attack is another tool for Urien to create space, but that’s not all it can do. Killer Straight can start and extend combos.
- Break Rush is a stronger one two punch with more range. Execute it like Terrible Smash to bust through crouch guards.
Urien’s Special Moves
Critical Arts
Street Fighter V has critical arts, which are similar to super combos. They require a full Critical Gauge to trigger.
Dominant Crush is a massive attack with limited range. It works best as an anti-air, but it’s possible to knock an enemy into it using Aegis Reflector. Try a crouching strong punch or Metallic Sphere to knock foes into the reflector.
