SFV: Champion Edition Season 5 2021 Tier List and Future Balance Changes

Published on: 01/07/2021
By: Tim Palmieri

Season 5 marks the final DLC coming to Street Fighter V: Champion Edition in Fall 2021. More characters means more updates and balance changes to the roster, so who knows which fighters will end up at the top of the meta when the last patch goes live (possibly) later this year. Fans can expect two major updates based on the SFV Season 5 roadmap.

What Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Major Patches/Balance Changes can we expect

  • First: When Dan releases in February. The roadmap dubs it “battle balance.”
  • Second: When the unknown final character drops in the Fall.

There’s always the chance that some changes will be implemented when Rose releases in the Spring and Oro & Akira Kazama release in the summer, especially given that Dan was originally supposed to release in Winter 2020, but don’t get your hopes up for anything extra.

We will update this article with any additional news on Capcom’s Season 5 patch plan.

SFV: Champion Edition Season 5 Tier List (January 2021)

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Tier Lists are rare these days. To get the best idea of where the meta is going, let’s learn more about the current state. Here are two of the most recent roster analysis from community sources.

Punk I Pro SFV Player for Panda Global

Punk is one of the best Street Fighter V players. The North American Karin main finished second at Capcom Cup 2019 and EVO 2017, but is one of the first places people turn for high-level SFV analysis. Here’s his tier list from November 2020.

Punk’s Street Fighter 5 Tier List

Tier lists often dictate the most dominant, or best, characters in the current version of a game. Punk makes a good point in his video that you can’t use the excuse you’d win if you used a better character when playing competitively because there’s nothing stopping you from switching to a high or even top tier fighter.

Eventhubs Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition Tier List January 2021

Hardcore and casual players alike can offer input on Eventhubs, making it a notable source to get a pulse on the general feeling the entire community has for top and bottom tiers. Sure high-level players won’t get as much use out of Eventhubs tier lists, but that doesn’t turn the platform into any less of an engaging conversation starter.

Here is the Eventhubs numbered tier list for all 40 SFV characters as of January 7, 2021. The rankings fluctuate often because they are always open to submissions.

1. Akuma
2. Urien
3. G
4. Cammy
5. Rashid
6. M.Bison
7. Poison
8. Guile
9. Chun-Li
10. Ibuki
11. Karin
12. Kolin
13. Zeku
14. Seth
15. Menat
16. Necalli
17. Dhalsim
18. Balrog
19. Abigail
20. Birdie
21. Laura
22. Gill
23. R. Mika
24. Sakura
25. Blanka
26. Lucia
27. Kage
28. Cody
29. Sagat
30. Ken
31. Falke
32. E. Honda
33. Zangief
34. Ryu
35. F.A.N.G
36. Juri
37. Ed
38. Alex
39. Nash
40. Vega

Notice a number of similarities between Punk’s list and Eventhubs such as Alex and Nash at the bottom and Akuma and Urien at the top. Meanwhile, there are a few stark differences like Vega ranking dead last on Eventhubs despite landing more in the middle of Punk’s analysis.

Where do your favorite characters place in the current version of Street Fighter V: Champion Edition? Look forward to more tier lists in the next few months after Dan’s release revitalizes the community via ‘battle balances' that will likely overhaul the current meta.
