Treyarch introduced a big spin on the fan-favorite CDL mode in their free Season Two: Reloaded DLC update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Multi-Team Hardpoint is just like the regular version except more players, teams, and positions. Experience fast-paced objective play in larger environments with squad spawns and air redeploys.
Learn these eight tips to play better via more kills and higher scores on any Fireteam Hardpoint map.
How is Multi-Team Hardpoint different from regular Hardpoint?
The most obvious difference between traditional Hardpoint and Multi-Team Hardpoint is the number of teams. This version has ten teams of four (40 total players) fighting for control of massive maps like Golova, which was previously only a zombie-mode map.
While 6v6 Hardpoint has one rotating position, the Fireteam variant has three. Unlike in classic multiplayer where players randomly respawn somewhere on the map, you have the option to either spawn on a teammate or drop from the sky like in COD Modern Warfare Warzone.
Players also use armor for additional health, increasing the time to kill. Powerful tools littered across the map ranging from vehicles like tanks to Scorestreaks such as the Gunship help keep the killfeed moving.
The final major difference is loot. The ability to find Killstreaks, armor, and other aspects of your loadout in chests makes matches even more like Warzone. Kill enemies and they’ll drop extra armor or streaks.
How to play Multi-Team Hardpoint
The first team to reach 1,000 points wins the game. One point is scored for every second you or a teammate stands in one of the three Hardpoints. That means you can get up to 4 points every second, making score deficits a lot closer than they may seem. The Hardpoint rotates every two minutes two a new location.
Due to the large number of players in Multi-Team Hardpoint, teams can earn points even when the hill is contested. Make sure your team has more players than others in the area. Otherwise the enemy will slowly overtake your score.
Teammates cannot respawn on players close to enemies (marked as danger on the map) or in combat, so decide if it is better to wait until they wipe out nearby foes, deploy to another Hardpoint, or drop into the area to provide support.
Fireteam: Multi-Team Hardpoint tips
Learn the maps
Golova is huge. There’s a town, railroads, all kinds of buildings for both campers and snipers seeking long lines of sight. Pay attention to where players typically go in your lobby. Matches are long, giving you ample time to focus and adapt. Also watch out for open spaces that make you an easy target.
Start quickly at the same Hardpoint
Coordinate with your team at the start of the game. You have a better chance of surviving the Hardpoint rush if you all go for the same position out of the plane. Build an early lead because you’ll have a tougher time coming back than staying ahead.
How to take and hold Hardpoints
Rushing on foot alone to the Hardpoint will almost certainly end in death, assuming the enemy teams aren’t fighting one another. Most teams wait in corners or behind cover for someone to enter the area. Use equipment like smoke grenades to close the distance and distract enemies.
Similar to any mode in COD, take different routes into and around the Hardpoints. Falling into habits just makes you an easy, predictable target.
Field Upgrades like Trophy Systems and Field Mics provide excellent support for controlling positions. You can even throw a smoke into a corner away from you as bait. Just like when you attack, try different positions if possible when defending. Some of the smaller Hardpoints might not have a lot of room for variation, so stick to the optimal spot and rely on your skills to survive.
Learn the rotation
When time’s almost up on one Hardpoint, a waypoint will appear for the next one. Get a head start on every new location before time runs out. Keep one or two people in the current objective, while the rest of your team moves to the next spot. This is a quick and easy way to gain points before enemy teams come piling through the door.
Always go for the Hardpoint(s) with your team
Because you get more points when everyone is inside of the Hardpoint, communication is crucial to staying in the game. Come up with a plan and watch your teammate’s back. Don’t immediately revive them if there are enemies around. Otherwise you’ll both end up dead.
If your team is far behind and desperately needs to catch up with less time on the clock, split up and try to capture multiple Hardpoints at the same time. It’ll be more difficult to take out enemy teams alone, but success means preventing other teams from increasing their lead. Take advantage of third party situations and don’t be afraid to strategically retreat outside of the zone while multiple teams whittle each other down.
Loot Scorestreaks
A well-timed VTOL Escort can prevent enemies from gaining points at a Hardpoint. Loot chests around the map in hopes of finding one, then lock down a position early in the Hardpoint rotation while your team takes control.
You’ll drop the streak if you’re killed before using it, which adds a risk, reward element to the game. Either wait until your team is in position at a Hardpoint, or immediately use it before you unwillingly give the other team an advantage.
Use ground vehicles to charge Hardpoints
A heft vehicle, like a jeep, is an effective way to charge at the Hardpoint. It gives you a little more firepower and you can always drive over enemies. This works better when the Hardpoint is in the cabin, and not when it’s in the square near the statue since a rocket or missile can easily wipe out your entire team.
The tank is another strong option for mobility and brute force. However, it isn’t overpowered so don’t expect to steamroll squads left and right.
Place traps in vehicles
Lay mines in unused vehicles to catch enemies with an explosive surprise.
