The Story Kontinues in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath DLC

Published on: 05/06/2020
By: Tim Palmieri

NetherRealm Studios reveals the long-awaited Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath story expansion alongside new characters, stages, Friendships, and Stage Fatalities.

What is Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath?

Aftermath releases on May 26. The story starts immediately after Kronika and her Crown are destroyed at the end of Mortal Kombat 11. Liu Kang and Raiden prepare to restart history using Kronika’s Hourglass, but Shang Tsung warns them that reality will be destroyed if anyone alters time without the Crown.

Shang Tsung convinces Liu Kang to send him, Nightwolf, and Fujin into the past. Will Shang Tsung’s trio retrieve the Crown or double-cross Liu Kang?

Aftermath integrates the DLC characters seamlessly into the story and shines the spotlight on fan-favorites like Nightwolf, Sheeva, and Fujin to further develop the fighters. Sheeva, Fujin, and RoboCop join the roster as part of the franchise’s first story expansion.

Who is Fujin?

The wind god Fujin is one of the four elemental gods assigned to protect Shinnok’s Amulet. He hasn’t been playable since Mortal Kombat Gold, the updated version of Mortal Kombat 4. Fujin is still popular despite minor cameos and little development.

Who is Sheeva?

Sheeva is Sindel’s buff four-armed bodyguard. This popular half-human, half-dragon hasn’t been playable since the Mortal Kombat reboot, but maintains a loyal following.

Who is RoboCop?

RoboCop is a guest character from the 1987 classic film. This cybernetically enhanced Detroit Police Department officer is a perfect fit in the Mortal Kombat universe. How will the action hero serve the public trust, protect the innocent, and uphold the law in a foreign world?

Free Updates

Free stages, Friendships, and Stage Fatalities also release on May 26.

New Stages

The Klassic Dead Pool and Soul Chamber arenas will return. There’s even a stage set outside Kronika’s Keep. The final stage, RetroKade, is a love letter to longtime fans. The throwback level mixes old school and modern presentation. NetherRealm said, “It’s like someone opened up a portal to NostalgiaRealm!”

Expect more details and a look at the RetroKade closer to release.

Aftermath MK11 Stage

What are Friendships?

Kill them with kindness! These finishers are the opposite of Fatalities. Perform comical and cute moves unique to every character after beating opponents.

What are Stage Fatalities?

Stage Fatalities are similar to traditional Fatalities, except they’re unique to the stage. Every character can perform it. Not every arena will feature Stage Fatalities. The developer looks forward to fans discovering every gruesome detail.
