UNICLR's movement is as fluid as its animation. There's little ground to cover between basic movement options, leaving beginners with less time spent figuring out how to maneuver around a fight and more time figuring out how to navigate in one. These basic maneuvers, including Smart Steer and Passing Link will help build a foundation before you dive into some of the game's more complex systems and mechanics.

Basic Mechanics and Movement: Smart Steer, Passing Link |
Old Faithful: Dash and Dash Attack
The tried and true classic. Tap forward twice to dash and close the gap between you and your opponent via this smooth animation. Transition into a dash attack by hitting Triangle or Circle. The afterimage means you’re doing it right. Each input triggers a different dash attack.
The timing can be tricky. Hold the second input on the dash down, then press Triangle or Circle to attack faster. Dash attacks start and extend combos. Note some characters can dash longer than others.
Take Two Steps Forward and One Step Back: Backstep
Backstep is mostly what you'd expect in a fighting game. They're strictly for movement and dodging attacks. Move the stick away from your opponent twice to quickly move back. There’s an extremely brief period of invulnerability where you cannot get hit even if their attack would normally land. Efficiently backstep to step on your opponent's strategy and create openings to counterattack.
(French) Bread and Butter: Basic Attacks
UNICLR features three buttons for normal attacks: Square (A), Triangle (B), and Circle (C).
Square = A or Light Attack
Triangle = B or Medium Attack
Circle = C or Heavy Attack
When in doubt, remember A attacks are typically fast and excel at close range, while B and C attacks are slower, more powerful moves. The attacks change if you are standing, crouching, and jumping. Figure out your character's variations to take advantage of as many situations as possible.
A Attack / Light Attack (Square)
Light Attacks may not have the best range or damage output, but they are versatile thanks to speed, safety, and combo potential.
B Attack / Medium Attack (Triangle)
Medium attacks have decent range and damage output. Good for poking from a distance, these moves fall between A and C Attacks in terms of speed and strength.
C Attack / Heavy Attack (Circle)
Heavy attacks are traditionally slow, strong, and have a good reach.
Don't Let Them Play the Game: Crushing Combos
Landing consecutive hits that the opponent cannot escape is called a combo. Damage adds up fast! Check the hit counter to see how long you can keep up combos! Mix up your approaches, feints, and combos to catch your opponent off guard.
Look, No Hands: Smart Steer
Smart Steer is essentially an auto combo system. It simplifies combos down to single buttons. Simply hit Square while standing, then continue to mash it to perform Smart Steer. Pressing other inputs will perform a different move and break the auto combo.
Smooth Moves: Passing Link
Passing Link is when you cancel one normal attack into another. For example, if you input Square, Triangle, then Circle, you can combo into a standing Square, standing Triangle, and finally standing Circle. Be advised! You can’t use the same move twice during a Passing Link. Practice the timing to perfect your combo game!
