Street Fighter V Champion Edition Beginner’s Guide: How to Play

Published on: 08/11/2020

Here comes a new challenger! SFV introduces even more World Warriors and brings back gaming icons like Ryu, the Eternal Wanderer. The newest installment in the legendary fighting game franchise combines new battle systems with fan favorite mechanics from throughout the series. Capture clout in the Capcom Pro Tour, have fun with friends, or tackle one of the many single-player modes spanning stunning stages from around the globe! Rise up whichever way you want to play!

Beginner’s Overview

Street Fighter V’s long history can make the game feel daunting for newcomers. Understand that trying new things regardless of whether it is a game, sport, or other activity always takes time to master, let alone grasp the basics. This overview is a wonderful way to dip your foot into the ring!

Offensive Basics

Attacks break down differently than other 2D fighters. Moves have light, medium, and heavy variations depending on if you punch or kick. Each attack serves a specific purpose. Light attacks generally have little range and deal little damage, but are fast. Medium attacks reach slightly further and do more damage, although they’re slower. Heavy attacks have more range and deal more damage. Crouching, jumping, and standing when performing inputs also changes moves. Take time in training mode, or the lab, to test every move in different scenarios.

How to Defend?

You can’t win without a good defense! Block and dodge attacks until you find an opening and take it straight to victory!

How to Throw?

For when you can’t penetrate your opponent’s defense, try tossing it aside! Throws give you better positioning and can mix up foes. Throw them into the corner to escape from it, or bait blocks for easy grabs. Some characters can even grab mid-air!

How to Use Fireballs?

Fireballs are synonymous with Street Fighter. A large portion of the cast throws fireballs with different properties. Fortunately there are moves and maneuvers designed to counter these projectiles. Don’t get stuck in spam! Conversely, capitalize on your projectiles to gain the upper hand in combat!
