How to Get Better at Hitting: Benchwarmer to Bullpen Destroyer
Dust off those cleats and dig into the batter’s box! MLB The Show 19 features a variety of customizable hitting options. It only takes a few seconds for the ball to reach the plate, so take a few minutes to review optimal strategies and techniques to go yard!
Select Your Most Comfortable Camera Option (Strike Zone)
The closer view helps players read the pitcher, ball movement, and get a feel for the strike zone.
Pick the Best Hitting Interface for You (Zone Hitting)
Zone hitting is recommended because it gives players the most control in the box.
Chose Your Favorite PCI (Plate Coverage Indicator)
There are a few different PCI styles. Experiment until you find your favorite. Figure out where to start your PCI every pitch Stick to one spot! Decide where to position the PCI and develop a habit to get into the groove. There’s no right or wrong way to do it.
Be Aware of Your Opponent’s Tendencies!
Pitchers are creatures of habit in reality and on the virtual diamond. Look for patterns in players to anticipate pitches and stay ahead of the curve.
Patience, Patience, Patience
There’s no rush to swing the bat. Work the count and don’t be afraid to take pitches.
Perfect Practice Makes Perfect
Practice hitting, seeing different pitches, work on your weaknesses, and steadily play on harder difficulties.
Look for Fastballs
It’s easier to watch for fastballs and adjust to off-speed pitches than the other way around because it is harder to react to fastballs if you’re not expecting them. No one wants to hit a pop out, even if it means saving yourself from the infamous golden sombrero.
Hit for Contact, Not Power
Consistent singles might feel less satisfying than homers, but they might be even more devastating to your opponent’s mental game. Swing for solid contact and the home runs will come, along with a lot more runs.

Pitching Trail
This aesthetically pleasing visual indicator shows the ball’s path after you pitch.
Find Your Pitching Interface
This alters the pitching experience. Pulse, for instance, depicts a pulsing black circle. Players need to time their pitch when the circle is at its smallest point for the best results. The default option Meter requires timing based on a bar’s movement. Hit X at the farthest point, then again in the yellow line on the right side of the meter.
Classic is simple and straightforward, but offers little control since players only hit X and hope the ball ends up in the right spot. Pure Analog features a plate on top of a vertical bar. Players must use the right stick to bring the ball straight down to the yellow bar then toward the red circle for accuracy.
Select the one you enjoy and feel most comfortable using!
Mix It Up!
Avoid pitching in patterns. For example, don’t always throw a change-up when the pitch count is in your favor. Instead, switch things up and get inside your opponent’s head! The only thing easier to hit than a 100 mph fastball is a 100 mph meatball you know is coming. Click the right stick to see past pitches for the current hitter. Note where you’ve pitched thus far, what you’ve thrown, and how often.
Learn the Different Pitches and Their Movements!
Once you get a knack for things like throwing sliders away from righthanded hitters or curveballs under the strike zone, work on analyzing your opponent’s swing. Watch pitches do they tend to look for? Did they swing early or late? Was their swing even in the right spot?
Fielding and Running Tips: Left Out to Left Field
Make every runner count and minimize errors to steal more than just a base! Snag flyballs, tag up, and shift your way into the World Series!
Always Make Sure You’re Inside the Fly Ball Cursor!
Move to remain inside the cursor when fielding to make the easy plays.
Take the Best Route to the Ball’s Destination
The fastest path to something is always a straight line. However, be aware that you’ll have to curve toward the cursor in some instances to account for curving fly balls. Go for where the ball is going, not where the ball is!
Don’t Forget to Tag Up!
Capitalize on fly balls to advance runners and score. Remain on the base until the fielder catches the ball, then run to the next base before they can take you out. Practice the timing to take full advantage of sacrifice flies.
Defensive Shift
Switch Defensive Shift to manual and control the positions of your players. Now it’ll be entirely up to you whether or not your team shifts right or left for pull hitters.
Throwing Interface
Reduce the risk of throwing errors with the button accuracy fielding option. Time your button presses to improve accuracy and strength.
