Lethal Hits
Landing Lethal Hits could be your path to victory! Perform one to stun foes and start big combos. Only a handful of moves can lethal hit. Every move has different criteria. Requirements include hitting your opponent from the back, punishing a whiffed strong vertical attack, and hitting an opponent who missed a light attack. Understanding situations where you and your opponent can capitalize on Lethal Hits adds additional layers of complexity and mind games to matches. Optimize spacing and various moves to make even ordinary hits lethal!
Guts/Reverse Rage
Guts/Reverse Rage changes the dynamic between players. The mechanic weakens attacks that deal 20 damage or less for players with 10% health or less, so that their opponent must use a riskier option to seal the round. In other words, pokes won’t easily finish off your foes. Large hits instead become more reliable, making for more memorable and tense conclusions.
Break Attack
Playing a defensive player that’s countering all of your options? Power through his defensives with a Break Attack! These moves go through Guard Impact and Reversal Edge. These moves have slow startup but are usually safe if your opponent blocks.
Guard Break/Guard Crush and Conditioning
Wonder why your health flashes red or yellow? Certain moves weaken your guard until it eventually breaks, putting you in a vulnerable state and giving your opponent a free combo. Condition players and strategize when to Guard Crush to always have an ace in the hole whether you need to come back or crush close opponents.
Soul Charge and Critical Edge
Soul Charge powers up your character for a limited time at the cost of meter. Characters like Kilik visibly transform, while others like Taki glow. During Soul Charge, the time freezes and you deal extra chip damage on block. Characters also gain new moves and combo extensions.
Critical Edge is this game’s equivalent of super moves. They cost meter, trigger cutscenes, and do a ton of damage. Combining Soul Charge and Critical Edge hits even harder!
Guard Impact and Reversal Edge
This iteration of SoulCalibur grants players a number of defensive options. Learn the difference between Guard Impact and Reversal Edge, as well as when to use which! Anticipate and react to your opponent’s playstyle to optimize these techniques and make your opponent second guess their strategy.
