Pointers for Picking Players

  • The 3 batter minimum rule for all pitchers negates last year’s strategy of picking common pitchers and then swapping them out after one batter. This makes starting pitchers more relevant. You want at least two good starting pitchers.
  • Consider positions when picking Diamonds. For instance, first basemen aren’t as important as outfielders.
  • Don’t solely decide based on rating. Look at player stats and positions. Are you better off picking a good hitter or another player with a mix of decent hitting and fielding stats based on what’s missing from your team? Maybe you just need a better infielder.
  • Get lefty and righty pitchers. This gives you more flexibility and the advantage in lefty vs. lefty and righty vs. righty matchups.
  • General baseball knowledge also helps you decide who to get at a glance, but when in doubt check stats and your lineup. This is purely optional and just something to consider if you follow the sport.
  • Switch your lineup and positions before your first game. Typically leave players in their normal positions. Outfielders can cover all three outfield positions, while swapping infielders is a bit trickier. The lineup is more variable based on player preference, but keep power hitters around 3-4. Contact/speed hitters at 1-2. Traditional strategy applies. Weaker players should come later in the lineup.

Winning Games

Playing the game comes down to fundamentals. There are no gimmicks. This is still a baseball game, just with a draft prior and only 3 innings. Hit, pitch, and field your way to victory.

  • Mound visit to give pitchers extra time to warm up.
  • Swap pitchers if you want the advantage in a lefty vs. lefty or righty vs. righty matchup. Just don't forget the 3 batter minimum rule.
  • Be efficient with pitches to conserve pitcher stamina. Be strategic and use a worse pitcher whenever possible, like if you have a decent lead, but warm up a good pitcher just in case things go south with your mediocre pitcher.
  • Traditional pitching and hitting techniques and tactics apply.
  • Be patient. You have fewer chances to score so patience is even more important. Let the ball come to you and take your time to not waste any outs.
  • Pitchers with tricky windups like Darren O’Day and Joe Smith can be extra effective.

Events

Limited-time events are similar to Battle Royale except teams must be constructed under specific conditions. Play other people for diamond supremacy. Every 5 wins nets you a new reward like XP, Stubs, or players. Lose twice and you're out.
