The Great Escape: Warface Capture Guide

Published on: 09/30/2019

Capture is a team-based objective mode. One team must defend a warhead briefcase, while the other team tries to steal and extract it. Players have one life per round, emphasizing strategy, patience, and cooperation. If time runs out the defending team wins. Wiping out the other team also nets a win. Capture ends when one team wins either six or 11 rounds, depending on the settings.

How to Capture the Warhead

The attacking team will want to fan out and take multiple routes toward the enemy base. Utilizing the cooperative climb mechanic provides either a shortcut through the map or an advantageous position with high ground. Sending two players up alternate paths also lowers the chances of being flanked or outnumbered because you can work together to keep more lines of sight in view.

One or two players staying back is another viable offensive tactic. Be patient and watch your mini-map. Note where the enemies fire from and the locations of downed players to determine your path across the map and put yourself in a better position to flank players or steal the warhead.

Capitalize on the large number of rounds to analyze the other team’s strategy. Ask yourself which routes they favor, where they typically position themselves, and what classes they use. On one hand, Snipers might favor spots with long lines of sight or high vantage points. On the other hand, Medics might prefer tight corners to use shotguns or even quieter sections to sneak out and revive downed teammates.

If a team wins two straight rounds taking the same path, chances are they might take it again. Every player has styles and positions they prefer, whether it is running and gunning straight toward the briefcase, or hanging around a staircase in the corner of a map. Adapting to styles and tactics round to round is crucial to winning.

How to Protect The Warhead

The defending team follows similar strategies. Newcomers might want to linger by the briefcase, but that isn’t always the best plan. The attacking team has to both grab the warhead and return it to their base. This means sneaking to the extraction point and getting a good line of sight to prevent captures is just as valuable as defending the warhead.

Most maps have more than one path into every room. Defending players should coordinate their positions to avoid blindsides. Don’t just sit in the corner of the room with the briefcase. Instead, work with a teammate to guard the front and the back entrances to the base. Another option is to sneak past the attacking enemies and position yourself at a key chokepoint on the map. The attacking team will eventually pass you on their way to score if you’re in a good position. Be careful and precise when flanking foes. You don’t want to shoot the first foe in the back only for a second one to appear and kill you.

Which Class Should I Play?

Varying classes across teams isn’t necessary but will put players at an advantage. Reviving players as the Medic might seem like too much of a risk when there’s only one life, however, in group gun fights enemies won’t always have the opportunity to finish off downed teammates without giving your team a bigger window to land shots. Just reviving one player every round can make a big difference in turning the tides and shifting the momentum in your favor. Plus Medics can heal themselves and teammates.

Engineers use claymores to block off key points of the map, knock out unsuspecting enemies, and show your teammates the enemies’ position. The class also repairs armor, which is more important here than in other modes because one shot can make all the difference when there are no respawns. Their submachine guns excel at close range. Be careful of giving away your location when destroying claymores.

Rifleman resupplies teammates’ ammo, although players are less likely to run out since everyone only has one life. Their weapons work best at medium range.

Snipers are more or less important depending on the map, although you should never underestimate the weapon when in capable hands. Quick scopes can be a menace in enemy hands and a blessing by your side. Mines are similar to claymores, so the same strategies apply.

Any class can be effective in Capture. A mixture of the map, skill, and style equate to the best loadouts. If one class isn’t working well, don’t hesitate to switch to another that either counters the opponent’s strategy or complements your team's tactics. Sometimes the simplest plan is the most effective.
